RECLAMATION SUCCESS

Lake Norman Quarry

National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association Environmental Eagle Award Operated by Hedrick Industries, the Lake Norman Quarry in North Carolina was awarded the National Stone Sand and Gravel Association’s 2004 Silver Environmental Eagle Award. The Environmental Eagle Award was created in 1992 to provide national recognition for aggregate-producing companies actively contributing to the maintenance of the environment in and around their operations, as evidenced by a corporate commitment to the full use of environmental controls and systems.

The North Carolina Wildlife Federation is host of the Wildlife And Industry Together (WAIT) initiative, which targets corporate campuses and facilities with large, sprawling acreage. Often game species like deer, turkey and quail that need large tracts of acreage may benefit from workplace habitat projects. Hedrick Industries’ Lake Norman Quarry is proud to be a new participant in the North Carolina WAIT program.

Examples of WAIT successes stories

WAIT is a program designed to foster public awareness and participation in conservation, wildlife restoration, and wildlife protection activities at the corporate level. Companies participating in WAIT agree to manage a portion of their property for wildlife habitat, appoint an employee committee to coordinate the WAIT plan for the site, and develop environmental education opportunities for employees and the local community. North Carolina is blessed with many types of habitat: from mountain streams to piedmont fields, from big leaf pine stands in the sandhills to coastal marshlands - all teaming with wildlife.
