Hedrick Industries has been recognized by the Western North
Carolina Regional Air Quality Agency for their outstanding
efforts to improve air quality in the region.
"They have
gone above and beyond what is required by air quality rules
and regulations to make a real difference in their
communities. They have employed measures to reduce energy
consumption by as much as 10%."
The company has also
instituted an engine and tire maintenance program on their
heavy machinery, which will improve efficiency and reduce
air emissions from the large trucks and equipment used at
all of their facilities.
Grove Stone & Sand Quarry has also constructed a
nature trail, planted plots of clover and rye to attract
deer and wild turkeys and converted an old landfill into a
butterfly garden. The North Carolina Wildlife Federation
recognized the company’s efforts by designating Grove
Stone a Wildlife and Industry Together site. It is one of
only 14 such sites in the state and only the second site in
Western North Carolina. The quarry property covers about
1,600 acres in Swannanoa. It is common to see deer and bears
in the area.
