RECLAMATION SUCCESS

Downington Quarry

National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association Environmental Eagle Award

Operated by Hanson Aggregates East, the Downington Quarry in Pennsylvania was awarded the National Stone Sand and Gravel Association’s 2004 Gold Environmental Eagle Award. The Environmental Eagle Award was created in 1992 to provide national recognition for aggregate-producing companies actively contributing to the maintenance of the environment in and around their operations, as evidenced by a corporate commitment to the full use of environmental controls and systems.

In recognition of their superior performance as environmental stewards during the past year, the Downington Quarry was one of only five individual aggregates producing operations from around the United States that earned the Gold Award.  NSSGA Environmental Committee chairman said “The accomplishments of these top five operations demonstrate the high level of commitment to environmental stewardship that runs throughout America’s aggregates industry.”

“The award is a well deserved recognition for a superior understanding and implementation of the increasingly complex environmental compliance requirements associated with mineral extraction,” stated Hanson’s safety director.
