Martin
Marietta Aggregates’ Beckmann Quarry, located in north San Antonio, Texas,
along Loop 1604, has been presented with the National Stone, Sand & Gravel
Association’s 2003 Gold Environmental Eagle Award. In 2002, the company
won the Silver Environmental Eagle Award. The quarry employs more than 400
people and produces more than 10 million tons of aggregate materials each
year.
The
Environmental Eagle Award was created in 1992 to provide national recognition
for aggregate-producing companies actively contributing to the maintenance of
the environment in and around their operations, as evidenced by a corporate
commitment to the full use of environmental controls and systems.
The division's San Pedro Quarry and Poteet Sand Plant also won awards at the
bronze level. This is the second year in a row that the Beckmann and San Pedro
quarries have received awards and the third year for the Poteet Sand Plant,
located south of San Antonio.
“It is an honor to have three facilities from our San Antonio district
recognized for their commitment to environmental excellence,” said Larry
Roberts, vice president of Martin Marietta Materials’ San Antonio district.
“These awards reinforce our proactive efforts to continually exceed the
industry's environmental standards.” |
