The current major reclamation effort underway is the
overburden fill placement area located at the western portion of the
site. This project was initiated in 1995 by establishing erosion and
sediment control structures prior to placement of fill. Phase I was
completed in July 1996. As part of the erosion and sediment control, a
wet pond was established attracting migratory waterfowl. Grasses planted
included german millet, lespedeza., kentucky fescue, rye, and weeping
lovegrass.

Phase II began in the fall of 1997 resulting in the
placement of approximately 150,000 cubic yards of overburden. Phase III
was completed in 2000 and involved stripping and placement of
approximately 125,000 cubic yards of overburden material.

Luck Stone corporate office and Boscobel Plant entrance |
The corporate office is located within the mine
permit area. The 15-acre field, which lies between the office and Route
6, was originally a deep ravine, which was filled in 1988 and has been
successfully reclaimed. This site is used for corporate events such as
the 75th Anniversary Celebration held in 1998. This area will
eventually be marked for commercial development at mine closure.

The Boscobel Quarry maintains an ongoing maintenance
program to enhance its reclamation program. The majority of the storm
water ditches are lined with gabion stone, which provides excellent
stability during major rainfall events. Sediment basins are routinely
cleaned out to their designed storage capacities and gabion stone placed
on the banks to ensure slope stability.

Overseeding with appropriate seed mixtures in needed
areas takes place annually. Special wildlife plants are planted
periodically to maintain the quarry’s reputation as an excellent
wildlife habitat.
