Be a Classroom Speaker
Be Prepared

If it is your first time, the teacher is probably more afraid of what you will say and do than you are.

Rule #1 Don’t do more harm than good.

COME BEARING GIFTS. If you can, leave everything with the teacher.

If you want to involve students in an activity, ALWAYS check with the teacher first to make sure they can handle it.

NEVER talk down or up to students. The older the students, the easier it is to talk with them. But will they listen? It depends on you.

Don't do more damage than good. PRACTICE. PRACTICE. PRACTICE.

Find out what the students have been studying and how much they know about you and your topic. You can ask the teacher anything- they want you to be successful.

WHAT IS YOUR TOPIC? Is it relevant to what the students are studying? Sometimes you can't make the “speech” you want because it doesn't fit.

NEVER EVER start a lesson, activity, or program that takes more than your allotted time, unless the teacher already knows they will have to provide follow-up time.

YOU ARE SUCCESSFUL if you get asked back.

Like other jobs, teaching requires skill, practice, and dedication.
