The new plant

The Cave Run Stone Quarry is actively mining limestone formations near West Liberty, Kentucky. They have an excellent compliance record at the operation; they have never been cited for any violations of Kentucky's Surface Mining Regulations. The site has been in operation since the mid-1960s. The company takes pride in appearance, safety, and meeting any public concerns. Nearby Cave Run Lake is well known throughout the United States as one of the top ten musky fisheries in the nation. Cave Run Stone won the 2001 Commissioners Excellence in Reclamation. They were also nominated for the 2002 Interstate Mining Compact Commission's reclamation award.
When Cave Run purchased the property in 2000, they immediately conducted an environmental impact study of the site to address any concerns such as oil spills, asbestos, or any hazardous waste. As a result, the company dismantled the old crushing facility and built a new plant. The access road was upgraded and widened, and a new scale house and scales were installed. To control dust, a large fresh water pond was constructed and diversions were designed to carry water across permitted areas to the pond. The company pumps water from nearby Licking River to the pond to keep it full during dry times. The pre-mining land use was forestland, and the company plans on returning the property to forestland. A post-mining land use of fish and wildlife habitat has already attracted numerous wild turkey and deer. CaveRun4a.jpg (56720 bytes)

Cave Run Stone is a company that strives to achieve outstanding results during their mining, processing, and reclamation operations. They are proud of their efforts in helping to protect the environment, and to help the public recognize the need for mining and dependence of society on aggregates.
